Dino Pelliccia at Gallery Joe

Philadelphia, PA - We are pleased to announce a show of new sculpture by Philadelphia artist Dino Pellicia in the Vault gallery at Gallery Joe. The exhibit opens on January 31st and runs until March 13th, 2004. This show will run concurrently with an exhibit of drawings by three artists in the front gallery entitled Accrescere. A reception will be held on First Friday, February 6th from 6:00 to 8:30. This will be Pelliccia’s second show at Gallery Joe.

Since his last show in 1999, Pelliccia has shifted from working in wood to stone. This show consists of more than twenty small alabaster carvings, each with its own simple stainless steel support. Scaled to the hand, the alabaster works are the result of a tactile, searching process of creation. “For me, they provoke the memory of touching,” says Pelliccia. The forms, derived from the human body, are generalized to the point of geometric purity. For close to a decade Pelliccia’s focus has been the female figure. Since these works were conceived as a unified body Pelliccia will show them as an installation on waist-high pedestals. One large black stained wood piece in the show harkens back to Pellicia┬╣s earlier work.

Pelliccia received his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. He has been a sculptor since the mid 1980’s. He has received two Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Grants and has shown in this area and in Maine where he has a summer home. In 2000, Pelliccia was awarded a residency at the Andy Warhol Estate in Montauk, New York. Pelliccia is a full time faculty member at Drexel University.

Dino Pelliccia opens Saturday, January 31, 2004 and runs through March 13, 2004. There will be an opening reception on First Friday, February 7 from 6:30 - 8:30 P.M. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday 12 - 5:30, other days by appointment. For additional information, contact Becky Kerlin, 215.592.7752, FAX 215.238.6923 or email
